Kerala is currently experiencing severe flooding due to intense monsoon rains, leading to significant disruptions and challenges for residents and authorities alike.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several districts, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.4 mm in 24 hours. This situation poses major threats, including the possibility of landslides, urban flooding, and river overflow. In addition to the red alerts, orange and yellow alerts have been issued for various districts, signifying very heavy to heavy rainfall, respectively. These warnings highlight the widespread impact of the monsoon rains across the state.
Authorities have also issued a 'Kallakkadal' warning due to high waves ranging from 1.5 to 1.8 meters along parts of the coastline. This condition increases the risk of coastal erosion and flooding, prompting advisories for residents to remain vigilant.
In response to the escalating situation, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been mobilized to assist in rescue and relief operations. Relief camps have been established to shelter displaced individuals, and efforts are underway to provide essential supplies and medical assistance to those affected by the floods.
Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels, adhere to safety guidelines, and avoid unnecessary travel to risk-prone areas. Continuous monitoring of weather updates and cooperation with local authorities are crucial during this challenging period.
