Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

Windy conditions are hampering efforts to contain the Greer Fire in eastern Arizona. The wildfire, which began on Tuesday, May 13, has already consumed approximately 20,833 acres.

Around 680 firefighters are battling the blaze, which has destroyed at least three buildings and a travel trailer in Apache County. Evacuation orders remain in effect for several areas, including the entire town of Greer.

Governor Katie Hobbs declared a State of Emergency and allocated $200,000 from the Governor's Emergency Fund to support the response. A Fire Weather Warning is in place due to dry conditions and gusty winds. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
