A tropical cyclone, designated 93P, has formed in the Gulf of Carpentaria, northeast of southern Papua. The system was detected on Thursday, May 8, 2025, and continues to develop. As of Saturday, May 10, 2025, the cyclone was located in the Arafura Sea, west of southern Papua.
The estimated center of circulation is at 7.5 degrees south latitude and 137.1 degrees east longitude. Wind speeds range from 25-30 knots in the southern quadrant, approximately 1-2 degrees from the center. The minimum pressure is around 1005 hPa.
While the cyclone is currently outside the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) Jakarta's area of responsibility, the BMKG is monitoring its development. Deep convection has been observed southeast of the cyclone, indicating outflow channels and surface-to-mid-level circulation. The system is supported by low-frequency activity, warm sea surface temperatures (29-30 degrees Celsius), and sufficient humidity.
