Storm Darragh to Impact UK up through December 8 2024

16:57, 05 December

Edited by: Anna 🌎 Krasko

A double yellow weather warning has been issued for rain and wind as Storm Darragh approaches Ayrshire. The Met Office has indicated that the rain warning will be in effect from 3 PM on Friday, December 6, until noon on Saturday, December 7. The wind warning coincides with the rain alert but will extend until 6 AM on Sunday, December 8.

Weather experts predict that the rain associated with Storm Darragh may disrupt transport throughout the weekend. Rainfall amounts are expected to reach 20-30 mm widely, with higher elevations in the south and southwest possibly receiving 50-60 mm.

As the rain falls on already saturated ground, local flooding and transport disruptions may occur. Winds will initially come from the south, but as the storm clears, gusts could reach 40-50 mph inland and exceed 60 mph in some areas. Along the coast, gusts may reach 60-70 mph, with local areas potentially experiencing gusts near 80 mph.
