Daylight Meteor Fireball Streaks Across Southeastern US, Generating Sonic Booms and Reports of Falling Debris

Edited by: Uliana S.

On June 26, 2025, a rare daylight meteor fireball was observed across the southeastern United States, from Georgia to Tennessee.

The American Meteor Society received over 200 reports, confirming sightings in multiple states, including Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. NASA confirmed the object was an asteroidal fragment, about three feet in diameter, entering the atmosphere at 30,000 mph.

The meteor disintegrated above West Forest, Georgia, releasing energy equivalent to 20 tons of TNT, producing sonic booms. A resident in Henry County, Georgia, reported a rock falling through their roof.
