Innovative Marine Pollution Monitoring Techniques and Collaborative Efforts in 2025

Edited by: Inna Horoshkina One

Marine pollution remains a critical global issue, prompting innovative monitoring techniques and collaborative efforts in 2025. Recent initiatives highlight the importance of integrating advanced technologies and citizen science to protect marine ecosystems.

The Coast Guard actively monitors the sea, controlling discharges and waste from ships using advanced technologies like remote sensing, aircraft, and satellites. This integrated approach ensures thorough and coordinated environmental control. The U.S. Coast Guard assumed federal control of pollution response efforts and is committed to an exhaustive cleanup effort.

Researchers are employing innovative analysis models to assess animal health based on pollutant concentrations in tissues. Citizen science projects engage volunteers in monitoring and data collection, raising public awareness about marine pollution. The EU's integrated approach will take centre stage at the European Digital Ocean pavilion during UNOC3, from 2 to 13 June 2025 in Nice, France.
