Greenpeace Activists Block Bottom Trawling in Mediterranean Protected Area

Edited by: Energy Shine Energy_Shine

In a bold move, Greenpeace activists deposited limestone boulders in the Gulf of Lion, a supposedly protected marine area in the Mediterranean. This action aims to physically prevent destructive bottom trawling, a practice still permitted within these so-called sanctuaries.

The activists targeted the French coastline, exposing the inadequacy of France's marine protected areas (MPAs). Greenpeace emphasizes that these areas are merely protected in name, as industrial fishing continues to devastate marine ecosystems.

This demonstration coincides with the upcoming UN Ocean Conference in Nice, urging immediate action to safeguard our oceans. With only 4% of French waters genuinely protected, Greenpeace demands a ban on bottom trawling in MPAs to ensure real conservation.
