Tara Polar Station Christened in 2025: Arctic Research Set to Commence

Edited by: Inna Horoshkina One

The Tara Polar Station was christened in Lorient, France, on April 25th, 2025. This marks a significant step forward for the floating research station designed for long-term Arctic exploration.

The Tara Polar Station is preparing for initial tests in the Arctic polar environment. A provisional navigation permit was granted in February 2025 to allow sea trials to begin. The first outing took place on February 13, 2025.

The station is designed to drift with the ice pack for approximately two decades, enabling scientists to study Arctic biodiversity and the impact of climate change. The first expedition, Tara Polaris I, is scheduled to begin in September 2026.
