Vertical forests bloom globally: Milan's Bosco Verticale inspires green urban revolution

Edited by: Anulyazolotko Anulyazolotko

In 2025, the Bosco Verticale, a pioneering vertical forest project in Milan, Italy, marks 11 years since its inauguration. Designed by Stefano Boeri, the project has transformed the urban landscape and inspired similar initiatives worldwide.

The Bosco Verticale consists of two residential towers, hosting over 9,000 plants, including trees and shrubs. This vegetation enhances air quality, reduces noise pollution, and regulates local temperatures.

The concept of vertical forests is expanding globally, with projects completed in cities like Huanggang and Antwerp. Future developments include vertical forests in Utrecht, Paris, and Cairo. In Dubai, two vertical forests are planned, aiming to improve air quality and reduce the greenhouse effect.

In March 2025, Brazil's Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development launched a R$150 million initiative for reforestation in rural settlement areas. This aims to restore native vegetation and promote environmental sustainability. These initiatives reflect a growing trend of integrating nature into urban environments, recognizing the environmental and social benefits of green spaces.
