Edited by: Anulyazolotko Anulyazolotko

The Mentok Urban Forest in West Bangka Regency, managed by PT Timah Tbk, exemplifies the successful revitalization of a former mining area into a thriving ecosystem. This 5.6-hectare space now functions as a crucial green area and conservation zone.

As of 2024, monitoring efforts have identified a diverse array of plant species, including laban, medang, pelempang, gaharu, ketapang, small-leaved acacia, and red pelawan, totaling approximately 100 individual trees. The forest also sustains a habitat for 21 fauna species, such as the brown-throated sunbird and sambar deer.

PT Timah's commitment to sustainable environmental management encompasses preserving local biodiversity and offering environmental education. The Mentok Urban Forest serves as an educational site, enhancing awareness among young people about the importance of environmental preservation. PT Timah continues to monitor and maintain the forest area, including planting endemic trees, controlling invasive species, and providing supporting facilities such as interpretive trails and educational information boards.
