The Llobregat River's natural environment is undergoing significant restoration in 2025. An investment of over 300,000 euros has improved 13,000 square meters of riverside paths, boosting biodiversity, citizen access, and sustainable mobility in Sant Joan Despí and El Papiol.
Completed in May 2025, the project focused on transforming key sections of the river space to enhance access and restore the landscape. The goal is to promote interaction between citizens and nature by repairing deteriorated surfaces and planting riverside vegetation.
The new design features rest areas, viewpoints, and native trees for shade. Invasive vegetation was removed to encourage the growth of indigenous flora, benefiting local fauna. These actions align with a metropolitan strategy to revitalize the Llobregat River, envisioning it as a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable space for walking, gathering, and connecting people with nature.
