The Getty Villa is hosting "The Kingdom of Pylos: Warrior-Princes of Ancient Greece" from June 27, 2025, to January 12, 2026. This exhibition marks the first major North American display dedicated to the Mycenaeans, showcasing over 230 artifacts from Messenia.
The exhibit's centerpiece is the Griffin Warrior tomb, discovered in 2015 by University of Cincinnati researchers. This unplundered tomb contained weapons, armor, and jewelry, providing insights into Mycenaean society. Among the notable finds is the Pylos Combat Agate, celebrated as a "Bronze Age masterpiece" for its intricate detail.
The exhibition explores Mycenaean engineering, arts, and administrative systems, as well as their connections with the Minoans of Crete. Following its display at the Getty Villa, the exhibition will move to the Hellenic National Archaeological Museum in Athens in 2026.
