The Blue Bay Shepherd: A New Breed for the Modern Family

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

The Blue Bay Shepherd, a relatively new breed, is making waves in the dog world, offering a unique blend of wolf-like appearance and family-friendly temperament. Developed in Florida by Vicki Spencer in 2011, the breed was created by crossing European German Shepherds with wolfdogs. This deliberate mix aimed to combine the beauty of wolf-like dogs with the trainability and friendly nature of a family pet. Blue Bay Shepherds typically stand 24–30 inches at the shoulder and weigh between 70–100 pounds. They are known for their dense, double-layered, blue-gray coat, which is one of their most recognizable traits. This breed is ideal for active families who can provide the time and space to meet their needs. However, it's important to note that real Blue Bay Shepherds only come from one breeding program based in Palm Bay, Florida.
