Arizona Reminds Public to Leave Baby Wildlife Alone

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

As summer 2025 nears, the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) is urging residents and outdoor enthusiasts to avoid disturbing baby wildlife, including young Cooper's hawks. This is crucial for their survival.

With warmer weather, AZGFD has seen a rise in calls about young hawks found on the ground. These are often fledglings learning to fly under parental supervision.

Young Cooper's hawks are generally not abandoned when on the ground; their parents continue to care for them. If a hawk seems distressed or the parent is dead, contact a wildlife rehabilitator.

For more information, visit the AZGFD website or call their wildlife emergency hotline.
