David Attenborough's 'Ocean' Film Released in 2025: A Call to Protect Our Seas

03:46, 07 May

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

David Attenborough's new film, "Ocean with David Attenborough," has been released in conjunction with his 99th birthday on May 8, 2025. The film serves as a powerful message, urging global action to protect the world's oceans.

The documentary showcases the beauty and fragility of marine ecosystems, highlighting the impact of destructive fishing practices like bottom trawling, which devastate seabed habitats and release significant amounts of carbon dioxide. It also addresses the threats of climate change, including mass coral bleaching, and the impact of industrial fishing on local communities.

Attenborough shares stories of hope, showcasing successful conservation efforts such as the recovery of whale populations after the international whaling ban and coral recovery in protected areas. The film emphasizes the ocean's capacity to recover if given the chance and calls for immediate implementation of marine protection measures. The film premiered on May 6, 2025, at London's Royal Festival Hall. It will be available on National Geographic on June 7 and streaming services like Disney+ and Hulu starting June 8.
