Pretoria Zoo Welcomes Over 200 New Marine Animals to Boost Biodiversity

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

The National Zoological Garden in Pretoria has enhanced its biodiversity by introducing over 200 new marine animals. This expansion aims to enrich the zoo's aquatic exhibits and educate the public about marine ecosystems.

The new arrivals include a variety of species, with three Blacktip reef sharks being a highlight. These sharks, native to the Indo-Pacific region, are listed as vulnerable due to overfishing and habitat destruction.

Other notable additions to the aquarium include power blue tangs, green bird wrasse, various pufferfish, and skunk-striped anemonefish. These new inhabitants are settling well into their environment.

The zoo aims to connect people with biodiversity and emphasize marine conservation. This initiative is part of the zoo's ongoing mission to improve its facilities and educate visitors.
