PACMA Joins Global Call to End Industrial Fishing, Advocating for Marine Animal Rights and Plant-Based Diets

Edited by: Olga Samsonova

The Spanish political party PACMA has joined over 120 organizations worldwide in observing the World Day for the End of Fishing. They are advocating for an end to industrial fishing to protect marine animals and ecosystems. PACMA emphasizes the ethical, environmental, and health reasons for transitioning to plant-based diets. According to the FAO, 35% of global fish populations are overexploited, with the Mediterranean Sea facing a critical 75% overexploitation rate. Industrial fishing captures 90 to 100 million tons of fish annually, impacting dolphins and other marine life as bycatch. PACMA highlights the suffering of fish during capture and the destruction of marine habitats by fishing practices. They advocate for rethinking dietary habits to preserve marine ecosystems and reduce animal suffering.
