Venezuela Imposes Tariffs on Brazilian Imports Amid Trade Tensions

07:28, 29 July

Edited by: Elena Weismann

Venezuela has recently implemented import tariffs on Brazilian products, affecting goods that were previously exempt under the Economic Complementation Agreement No. 69 (ACE 69) of 2014. This move has raised concerns among Brazilian exporters and authorities.

The tariffs impact various products, including flour, margarine, cocoa, and sugarcane, which are key exports from Brazil's Roraima state to Venezuela. The Federation of Industries of the State of Roraima (Fier) has initiated investigations to understand the reasons behind the sudden imposition of these tariffs and to seek resolutions that restore trade under the terms of ACE 69.

Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services are actively monitoring the situation. The Brazilian Embassy in Caracas is engaging with Venezuelan authorities to clarify the nature of the tariffs and to work towards normalizing bilateral trade relations.

This development underscores the importance of open communication and diplomatic efforts in resolving trade disputes and maintaining stable economic relations between neighboring countries.
