Colombia: 2025 Income Tax Declaration Deadline and Thresholds Announced by DIAN

Edited by: Elena Weismann

The deadline for individuals to file their income tax returns in Colombia for the tax year 2024 is approaching. According to the official tax calendar, taxpayers must file and pay their taxes between August 12 and October 24, 2025, based on the last two digits of their Tax Identification Number (NIT).

The DIAN (Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales) has set specific thresholds to determine who is obligated to declare income tax. These thresholds include a gross asset value equal to or greater than $211,792,500 (4,500 UVT) at the end of 2024, and gross income equal to or greater than $65,891,000 (1,400 UVT) at the end of 2024.

Other thresholds include credit card spending, bank deposits, financial investments, purchases, and consumption equal to or greater than $65,891,000 (1,400 UVT). Additionally, those responsible for Value Added Tax (VAT) are also required to file. The UVT (Tax Value Unit) for 2025 is set at $49,799, a 5.81% increase from the previous year.

Filing after the deadline will result in a penalty for late filing. This penalty is equivalent to 5% of the tax due, increasing with each month or fraction of a month of delay.
