Taylor Swift has officially reacquired the master recordings for her first six studio albums, marking a significant victory in her battle for artist autonomy. On May 30, 2025, Swift announced she bought back the rights to her early catalog from Shamrock Capital, which purchased them from Scooter Braun in 2020.
This concludes a public dispute that began in 2019 when Big Machine Records sold her masters to Scooter Braun without her consent. In response, Swift embarked on a project to re-record her first six albums, releasing "Taylor's Version" of Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989 to commercial and critical acclaim.
Swift's announcement included that she had finished re-recording her debut album Taylor Swift and had recorded some of Reputation. She expressed excitement about owning her music outright, thanking fans for their support. The terms of the deal with Shamrock Capital were not disclosed.
