Kraken Reintroduces Bitcoin Staking in the US

Edited by: Yuliya Shumai

In January 2025, Kraken relaunched its Bitcoin staking service for U.S. customers across 39 states and territories. This move follows a two-year absence due to regulatory issues.

The relaunch follows a $30 million settlement with the SEC in February 2023. The SEC alleged that Kraken's staking program offered unregistered securities.

As of June 19, 2025, Bitcoin (BTC) is trading at $104,590.00 USD, up 0.29% from the previous close. The intraday high was $105,183.00 USD and the intraday low was $103,795.00 USD.

Kraken's Global Head of Consumer, Mark Greenberg, highlighted that clients can earn a return on their BTC. Users can unstake at any time, with an approximate seven-day unbonding period.
