SEC Approves Ethereum ETFs with Staking Capabilities

06:58, 31 July

Edited by: Elena Weismann

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the inclusion of staking capabilities in Ethereum Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), marking a significant development in the cryptocurrency investment landscape. This decision allows investors to earn rewards by participating in the Ethereum network's proof-of-stake consensus mechanism through their ETF holdings.

Several asset management firms, including Grayscale, 21Shares, and BlackRock, have sought regulatory approval to integrate staking into their Ethereum ETFs. These proposals aim to enhance the attractiveness of Ethereum ETFs by offering additional yield to investors. The SEC's approval is expected to facilitate greater institutional participation in the Ethereum ecosystem, potentially leading to increased liquidity and broader adoption of Ethereum-based financial products.

The approval of staking in Ethereum ETFs aligns with the SEC's evolving stance on cryptocurrency regulations, reflecting a more accommodating approach under the current administration. This shift is anticipated to pave the way for further innovation and development in the cryptocurrency investment sector, providing investors with more diversified and yield-enhancing options.

As of July 31, 2025, Ethereum (ETH) is trading at $3,871.69, with an intraday high of $3,871.69 and a low of $3,689.27. The market's positive response to the SEC's decision underscores growing confidence in the integration of staking features within regulated investment vehicles.
