SEC Delays Decision on Grayscale Ethereum ETF Staking Proposal
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has postponed its decision regarding Grayscale's Ethereum ETF staking proposal until June 1, 2025. This delay was announced on April 14, 2025. The initial proposal to amend listing rules for Grayscale's Ethereum Trust ETF and Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust ETF was submitted by NYSE Arca, Inc. on February 14, 2025.
The SEC is also delaying decisions on in-kind creations and redemptions for Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs from WisdomTree and VanEck until June 3, 2025. The delay allows the SEC more time to evaluate the proposed rule changes and associated issues. These extensions are standard procedure under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.
Currently, ETH is trading around $1,635, showing a slight increase over the past week. The SEC's decision on staking could significantly impact the attractiveness of Ethereum ETFs to investors. The final deadline for a decision on staking services, however, remains October 2025.
