Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse announced on March 19, 2025, that the SEC has dropped its lawsuit against Ripple Labs, marking the end of a four-year legal battle. This decision, revealed at Blockworks' 2025 Digital Asset Summit in New York, follows similar SEC reversals under President Donald Trump, who has promised a friendlier regulatory environment for crypto. Garlinghouse estimates Ripple spent over $150 million defending itself. Following the announcement, the price of XRP surged as much as 15% to $2.59 on Wednesday, having jumped almost 400% since Trump's election victory in November. While a $125 million fine remains in escrow related to historical XRP sales to institutional investors, Ripple is now focusing on expansion, having invested over $2 billion in crypto investments and acquisitions.
