Metaplanet's Record Bitcoin Buy

On December 23, 2024, Tokyo-based investment firm Metaplanet made its largest-ever single Bitcoin purchase, acquiring 619.7 BTC valued at approximately $60 million, as Bitcoin trades around $96,000. This purchase nearly quadruples the firm's previous record buy of 159.7 BTC from October 28, 2024.

With this acquisition, Metaplanet's total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 1,762 BTC, worth roughly $168 million, reflecting an average purchase price of about $75,600 per BTC. The firm has been recognized as 'Asia's MicroStrategy' and now holds the twelfth-largest Bitcoin stack among public companies.

Notably, Metaplanet reported a BTC Yield of 310% from October 1 to December 23, significantly outperforming the 41.7% yield recorded from July to September. The firm also announced plans to formalize 'Bitcoin accumulation and management' as a business line, expanding beyond mere acquisition.

Following the announcement, Metaplanet's stock price rose 5% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, although it remains down nearly 13% over the past week. Despite this, the firm's shares have surged over 2,100% this year, reaching an all-time high of 4,080 Japanese yen ($26) on December 17.
