Volkswagen Unveils ID.Buzz AD, Its First Fully Autonomous Vehicle, in Hamburg

Volkswagen has launched the ID.Buzz AD, its first fully autonomous production vehicle, in Hamburg. This marks a significant step in autonomous vehicle development. The ID.Buzz AD is designed for urban mobility and public transport applications.

The ID.Buzz AD is based on the ID.Buzz, which was initially presented in March 2022. Production of the ID.Buzz began in June 2022, with deliveries in Europe in late 2022 and in the US in 2024. The autonomous version, the ID.Buzz AD, is slated for public transport deployment, specifically in Hamburg.

Volkswagen plans to deploy the ID.Buzz AD in public transport in Hamburg starting in 2025. The vehicle features advanced sensors, including LiDAR, radar, and cameras, and sophisticated AI algorithms for precise navigation and obstacle avoidance. This move is part of Volkswagen's strategy to integrate autonomous vehicles into urban mobility services, offering a potential solution for efficient and sustainable public transportation.
