Uber has announced a $300 million investment in Lucid Motors, aiming to deploy over 20,000 autonomous Lucid Gravity SUVs equipped with Nuro's Level 4 self-driving technology over the next six years. The initiative is set to commence in a major U.S. city in late 2026, marking Uber's significant entry into the autonomous vehicle market.

The partnership combines Lucid's advanced electric vehicle technology with Nuro's autonomous driving system, leveraging Uber's extensive global platform to offer a fully integrated robotaxi service. The Lucid Gravity SUV, known for its long-range capabilities, is expected to be assembled with Nuro's technology at Lucid's Arizona facility.

Uber's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, emphasized the transformative potential of autonomous vehicles, stating, "We're thrilled to partner with Nuro and Lucid on this new robotaxi program, purpose-built just for the Uber platform, to safely bring the magic of autonomous driving to more people across the world." Lucid's interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, noting, "This investment from Uber further validates Lucid's fully redundant zonal architecture and highly capable platform as ideal for autonomous vehicles, and our industry-leading range and spacious well-appointed interiors, as ideal for ridesharing."

The collaboration reflects a broader industry trend towards integrating autonomous technology into ride-hailing services, with companies like Waymo and Tesla also advancing in this space. Testing for the Lucid-Nuro robotaxi prototype is already underway at Nuro's Las Vegas facility, with plans for a public launch in the near future.
