Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter and CEO of Block, has launched Bitchat, a new peer-to-peer messaging app.
Bitchat operates over Bluetooth mesh networks, eliminating the need for internet connectivity. The app allows encrypted, ephemeral communication between nearby devices.
Currently in beta, Bitchat is available on Apple's TestFlight platform. It is designed for use in areas with unreliable internet.
Future updates will include Wi-Fi Direct to increase speed and range. The app features optional group chats, or "rooms," which are password protected.
Dorsey is a proponent of decentralized platforms. Bitchat aims to provide censorship-resistant communication, even during outages.
