Google DeepMind Unveils Genie 3, Advancing Interactive 3D World Generation

19:35, 06 August

Edited by: Olga Sukhina

On August 5, 2025, Google DeepMind announced the release of Genie 3, a significant advancement in AI-powered world models capable of generating dynamic, interactive 3D environments in real-time. This new model builds upon its predecessor, Genie 2, by offering several minutes of continuous interaction at a resolution of 720p and 24 frames per second. A key innovation is Genie 3's ability to maintain physical consistency and visual memory, ensuring generated worlds remain coherent and responsive over extended periods. Shlomi Fruchter, research director at Google DeepMind, described Genie 3 as the "first real-time interactive general-purpose world model." The model also features "command-triggered world events," allowing users to modify environments through text prompts, such as changing weather conditions or introducing new elements.

Genie 3 holds considerable potential for training AI agents, providing a realistic and interactive simulation ground for learning through trial and error, similar to human learning. This approach is vital for developing AI systems that can navigate complex, unpredictable real-world scenarios. Google DeepMind has been a pioneer in simulated environments for over a decade, utilizing them to train agents for various tasks. Genie 3's development is viewed as a critical milestone in the pursuit of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), paving the way for more capable and autonomous AI agents. The model's unsupervised learning approach, trained on vast amounts of internet video data, allows it to generalize to new visual inputs and create interactive environments without explicit supervision. While currently available as a limited research preview to trusted academics and creators, Google DeepMind plans to expand access to Genie 3, with a phased rollout to ensure safety, address bias, and promote responsible use. The technology is anticipated to have a significant impact on sectors including gaming, virtual reality, education, and scientific research.
