Meta AI Launches in Portugal and 40 Other European Countries, Integrated into Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp

Meta AI, Mark Zuckerberg's digital assistant, has launched in Portugal and 40 other European countries. Integrated into Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, the AI assistant arrives after a delay due to data protection concerns raised by the Irish Data Protection Commission. Currently in beta, Meta AI in Portugal is initially limited to chat functions in six European languages within WhatsApp group conversations. Future plans include expanding its capabilities to other networks and enabling it to search for information, suggest dining options, and assist with travel planning. Due to EU regulations, Meta AI will not generate or edit images or answer photo-related questions. Meta aims to work with European authorities to ensure European citizens have access to AI innovations available elsewhere. The AI assistant was launched in the US in September 2023, India in June 2024, and the UK in October.
