USPS Partners with Elon Musk's DOGE Amid Financial Struggles, Employee Cuts Planned

Washington D.C. - The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has partnered with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to address financial challenges. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced the agreement to Congress, aiming for DOGE to assist in identifying efficiencies. USPS, facing a $9.5 billion loss last year, seeks to tackle issues like mismanagement of retirement assets and regulatory restrictions. However, concerns arise regarding potential privatization. Representative Gerald Connolly (D-Va.) fears DOGE's involvement could undermine the service. The National Association of Letter Carriers also opposes privatization. USPS plans to cut 10,000 workers through early retirement in the next 30 days, aiming to cut operating costs by $3.5 billion annually. The agency has resisted privatization calls amid declining first-class mail volume.
