Tesla plans to build a new megafactory near Houston, Texas, dedicated to the production of Megapack energy storage products. The facility, spanning over 1 million square feet in Katy, Texas, will benefit from a tax abatement agreement with Waller County, contingent on property upgrades including $44 million in facility improvements and $150 million in manufacturing equipment. The project is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs. This move aligns with Tesla CEO Elon Musk's strategy to expand the company's solar energy and battery business, complementing its existing EV operations and a similar gigafactory in China.
