Oschadbank has confirmed the seizure of approximately €87 million in Russian assets located in France. This action is part of the compensation owed to the bank for assets lost in Crimea following its occupation by Russia in 2014.
The confirmation, received on April 23, 2025, grants Oschadbank priority rights to these assets under French law. This seizure follows a 2018 ruling by the Arbitration Tribunal in Paris, which ordered Russia to pay Oschadbank over $1.11 billion USD for losses incurred due to the illegal expropriation of the bank's Crimean assets.
Roza Tapanova, a member of Oschadbank's Supervisory Board, stated that the bank anticipates a protracted legal battle to enforce the asset recovery but remains confident in achieving a just outcome. The bank also intends to file more lawsuits against Russia to battle for compensation of all damages made since the full-scale invasion in February 2022.
