Billionaire Kenneth C. Griffin made headlines at Sotheby's "Fine Books and Manuscripts" sale, acquiring two significant historical documents for a combined $18 million.

Griffin secured President Abraham Lincoln's handwritten copy of the 13th Amendment for $13.7 million, a record-breaking price for such a document. He also purchased a signed Emancipation Proclamation for $4.4 million.

Griffin stated his purchases were motivated by a desire to preserve American history and inspire future generations. He is known for his extensive art collection and significant political donations.
