A previously unseen painting by Salvador Dalí, created in 1921, went to auction in Barcelona. The still life, painted when Dalí was just 17, had a starting price of €150,000, with expectations it could reach €250,000.
The auction took place on February 13th. The painting offers a unique glimpse into the formative years of the surrealist genius.
According to the auction house, Subarna, the artwork reflects influences from cubism and Picasso's Blue Period. Dalí painted the piece shortly after the death of his mother, a loss that deeply impacted his artistic path.
Despite Dalí having exhibited works from the age of 15, this particular painting remained hidden for years. The auction presented a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Dalí's early work, unseen by the public until now.
