Rare Ford GT40 Mk IV 'J-10' Up for Auction: A Chance to Own a Piece of Racing History

A genuine Ford GT40 Mk IV, chassis J-10, is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer, offered by classic car expert Wayne Carini. Bidding ends on Thursday, March 6th. This "J-car," a successor to the original GT40, features the 7-liter V8 from the 1966 Le Mans winner, paired with a new chassis and body by Ford's Kar-Kraft.

The Mk IV only raced in 1967, winning both the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the latter being the only all-American victory in the race. After 1967, Ford sold the unfinished J-10 chassis to Charlie and Kerry Agapiou, who developed a convertible body and raced it in Can-Am in 1969 as the Ford G7A.

After decades in storage, the current owner commissioned a restoration and conversion to a Le Mans-style body in the mid-2010s. It now sports the iconic red and white livery of the 1967 Le Mans winner and a 427 cubic inch V8 engine. While the final sale price is uncertain, it's expected to be less than an original GT40 Mk IV, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of American racing history.
