Edited by: Liliya Shabalina

Italian sprinter Emma Maria Mazzenga continues to defy age, setting new world records and inspiring athletes across generations. Competing in the W90 category, Mazzenga has demonstrated that age is no barrier to athletic achievement.

In January 2024, Mazzenga set a new world record in the 200 meters indoor with a time of 54.47 seconds. She has since improved her own 200-meter record to 51.08 seconds and set a new benchmark in the 60 meters with a time of 14.58 seconds. These remarkable feats were achieved despite a recent four-month break from training due to a fracture, highlighting her resilience.

Mazzenga's athletic journey began at the age of 53. Over the years, she has accumulated numerous accolades, including multiple world and European records. Her dedication serves as a powerful reminder of the benefits of regular physical activity for seniors, which can improve physical function, enhance balance, and reduce the risk of falls, promoting independence.

Beyond the physical advantages, Mazzenga's achievements also underscore the psychological benefits of setting and pursuing goals at any age. Her story embodies lifelong learning and personal growth, demonstrating that consistent engagement in physical and cognitive activities can contribute to mental clarity and overall well-being.
