Saudi Arabia Eases Alcohol Restrictions to Boost Tourism

Edited by: Елена 11

Saudi Arabia is easing its long-standing ban on alcohol, allowing limited access in high-end tourist facilities. This move is part of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy and attract more international visitors.

The new regulations permit the sale of alcohol, specifically wine and beer, in select tourist establishments. These include five-star hotels, licensed resorts, and designated tourist villages.

This policy aims to balance cultural values with the goal of increasing tourism's contribution to the GDP by 10% by the end of the decade. Alcohol consumption will remain strictly prohibited outside of these designated areas, such as public spaces and private residences.

The decision also supports Saudi Arabia's preparations for major international events like Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Authorities will closely monitor the sale and consumption of alcohol, with strict penalties for misuse or violations.

Major hotel chains are already adapting their plans to cater to the expected increase in international guests. The government hopes this change will attract more global events and tourists, while respecting local values and promoting economic growth.
