Miami's Roaming Roosters: Little Havana's Unofficial Mascot in 2025

Edited by: Елена 11

Miami continues to embrace its vibrant scenery and cultural diversity in 2025, with roosters remaining prominent figures in neighborhoods like Little Havana and Wynwood.

These birds, descendants of those brought by Cuban and Latin American immigrants, roam freely and have become a unique symbol of the city. While some find their early morning crowing disruptive, many residents cherish them as an integral part of the neighborhood's soul.

The connection between Little Havana and roosters was formalized in 2002 with the installation of fiberglass rooster statues along Calle Ocho. These colorful sculptures, designed by the late artist Pedro Damián, continue to be a major tourist attraction, offering fun photo opportunities. Jakelin Llaguna, owner of Little Havana Visitors Center, notes that residents have embraced them as an emblem of the neighborhood, with rooster-themed souvenirs being popular among visitors. The roosters symbolize new beginnings and awakenings, reflecting the Cuban community's fresh start in Little Havana after the revolution.
