Edited by: Елена 11

Edinburgh is once again preparing to host its renowned Christmas Market and Winter Festival, widely regarded as one of Europe's leading festive events. The official dates for the highly anticipated celebration span a lengthy period, commencing on Saturday, November 15, 2025, and concluding on Sunday, January 4, 2026. This extended timeframe ensures ample opportunity for both Christmas and New Year's festivities, drawing visitors from around the globe.

Traditionally situated in the picturesque East Princes Street Gardens, the market will feature an impressive assembly of more than 70 retail pavilions. A key highlight is the commitment to local enterprise, with expectations that over three-quarters (75%+) of the vendors will be Scottish businesses, offering both handcrafted goods and diverse international cuisine. This annual event has historically generated significant economic activity for the city, previously achieving an economic impact of £113.2 million and attracting a massive audience of over 2.5 million visitors.

The central entertainment offerings are diverse and exciting. Dominating the skyline will be the LNER BIG WHEEL, scheduled to operate from November 17, 2025, through January 4, 2026, providing breathtaking panoramic views across the historic city.

Complementing the main market, a dedicated fair featuring family-friendly rides and attractions will be set up in West Princes Street Gardens. Furthermore, the Ross Bandstand is slated to host an extensive schedule of live performances, including concerts and choral singing, underscoring the festival's focus on community engagement and cultural programming.

George Street will be transformed into a winter wonderland, hosting the George Street Ice Rink. This popular attraction will be open from November 20, 2025, until January 4, 2026. Patrons can enjoy 40-minute skating sessions on the 100% natural ice surface. Prices for admission, which include skate hire, start at £15. For those needing refreshment after their skate, the adjacent Polar Ice Bar and various rest areas offering hot beverages will be readily available.

For younger visitors, St Andrew Square will host Santa's Winter Garden, offering children the chance to meet Santa Claus himself. While entry to the market grounds remains complimentary, separate tickets are required for accessing the ice rink and various rides. In a gesture supporting local residents, those living in Edinburgh with an EH postcode are entitled to a 20% discount on select entertainment activities.

The festive season culminates in the world-famous Hogmanay celebrations. As a spectacular precursor, the Torchlight Procession is set to return on December 29, 2025. This dramatic event will begin at the Meadows before winding its way through the historic Old Town, featuring traditional pipers and stunning fire shows, officially marking the commencement of the New Year's festivities.
