Мальдивы — a paradise chain of islands and atolls with turquoise water, white sand, and a rich underwater world.

In the Maldives, where pristine waters meet cutting-edge technology, the leading telecommunications operator Dhiraagu has launched a significant network infrastructure upgrade powered by artificial intelligence. Dhiraagu has entered into a strategic partnership with Infovista to deploy comprehensive AI-driven optimization spanning the entire technology lifecycle, from legacy 2G standards all the way through to high-speed 5G services. This collaboration, formally announced on November 19, 2025, is pivotal for supporting the nation's booming tourism sector and its broader digital transformation agenda across the scattered archipelago.

The core of this extensive enhancement lies in intelligent network planning, utilizing machine learning models to accurately forecast coverage areas within the Maldives' complex maritime geography. Infovista’s Planet solution, equipped with sophisticated machine learning capabilities, delivers highly precise signal propagation predictions. This precision is absolutely critical for optimizing the placement of new 5G New Radio base stations. The goal is to guarantee consistently stable and reliable connectivity for all subscribers, whether they are tourists streaming high-definition video or local residents maintaining contact across remote atolls. Travelers, in particular, can anticipate a noticeable uplift in the Quality of Experience (QoE) for all digital services they utilize.

Beyond initial planning, Dhiraagu is focusing on proactive network health management. The operator is employing Infovista’s tools to identify and resolve potential service disruptions before they ever impact end-users. The Ativa solution provides real-time visibility into key network and service performance indicators (KPIs), enabling rapid detection and remediation of issues. This commitment to unwavering reliability reinforces Dhiraagu’s recent accolade as the "Fastest 5G Network in the Maldives," a title earned based on Ookla test results from the third and fourth quarters of 2024. Demonstrating a long-standing dedication to innovation, Dhiraagu previously conducted the country's inaugural 5G demonstration on November 21, 2018.

This technological leap directly supports critical national infrastructure, including the recent inauguration of a new Tier III Ready data center. Reflecting on national strategy, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasized that digitalization forms the bedrock of the Maldives' national vision, aiming for the digital economy to contribute 15% by the year 2030. Dhiraagu, which previously achieved the milestone of providing mobile coverage across every atoll by 2015, remains central to this ongoing development. The integration of Infovista’s unified solution—encompassing Planet, TEMS, and Ativa—streamlines network planning, testing, and quality assurance. This consolidation is especially vital given the island nation's unique setup; as of early 2025, the Maldives registered over 747,000 active SIM cards against a population of approximately 521,000 people.

Furthermore, Dhiraagu’s ongoing technological initiatives, which include the five-year plan to extend fiber optic connectivity to every inhabited island, are establishing a robust digital foundation. This comprehensive approach ensures the country is well-positioned for sustainable growth in the 5G era, delivering an exceptional subscriber experience across the entire nation.
