Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is preparing to host two significant sporting events on Sunday, September 7, 2025. The city will be the venue for both the Brecon Carreg CDF 10K road race and the concluding stage of the Tour of Britain cycling race.

The Brecon Carreg CDF 10K is expected to attract over 7,800 participants. The race will commence on King Edward VII Avenue and finish at the Edwardian Civic Centre, with a route designed to showcase Cardiff's landmarks, including Pontcanna and Llandaff Fields.

Adding to the day's significance, Cardiff will mark the professional retirement of Welsh cycling icon Geraint Thomas. The Tour of Britain's final stage will conclude near Cardiff Castle, a fitting end to Thomas's 19-year career. The cycling race begins at the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome in Newport, with a route that reportedly includes locations personally meaningful to Thomas.

The combined events are anticipated to bring considerable energy to Cardiff. The Brecon Carreg CDF 10K alone expects over 7,800 runners, with thousands of spectators also in attendance. The overall attendance for these dual sporting spectacles is projected to reach over one million people throughout the year, with an estimated economic impact of nearly $94 million.

Significant transportation adjustments will be in effect on September 7th, with road closures planned in key areas from early morning until evening, affecting both private vehicles and public transport. Transport for Wales has warned of potential disruptions to train services, including cancellations and replacement bus services due to scheduled engineering works. The weather forecast indicates a possibility of light rain with temperatures around 19°C (66°F).
