Uttar Pradesh Launches 248km Yamuna Waterway to Boost Connectivity and Tourism Between Kanpur and Prayagraj

06:36, 24 March

Edited by: Елена 11

Uttar Pradesh is embarking on an ambitious water transport project, a 248-kilometer waterway along the Yamuna River, connecting the Kanpur-Bundelkhand area with Prayagraj. Starting from Panchnad in Kalpi, Jalaun district, this initiative aims to alleviate road congestion, reduce pollution, and stimulate tourism by offering an efficient route for both passengers and freight. Under the guidance of the Kanpur Region Integrated Development Authority (KRIDA), the project seeks to enhance regional infrastructure, providing a safer and more efficient alternative to road travel. The waterway will leverage the Yamuna River's steady water flow, supported by the confluence of the Betwa, Ken, and Mandakini rivers at Panchnad, ensuring reliable transportation services year-round. By shifting transportation from roads to the river, authorities anticipate a significant decrease in traffic, pollution, and accidents. The scenic route along the Yamuna is expected to attract tourists, offering a unique way to explore the region. Furthermore, this project will link Uttar Pradesh with neighboring northern states, fostering trade and travel while promoting a greener, more sustainable transportation network.
