High school students globally face significant stress, often leading to depressive symptoms. A new year-long intervention, the Mastery of Interpersonal Relationships and Emotional Skills (MIRaES) program, shows promise in mitigating these issues.
The MIRaES program, tested in Japan, focuses on assertiveness, cognitive reconstruction, anger management, and problem-solving. Students attending sessions regularly showed no increase in depressive symptoms, unlike those with lower attendance.
The program's success highlights the importance of adapting mental health interventions to specific school contexts. This approach could improve mental health among high school students worldwide.
