A fundraiser is underway to provide veterinary care for bodega cats in New York City, aiming to raise $30,000 by June 30, 2025. These cats are cultural icons, known for keeping corner stores pest-free, but often lack access to basic healthcare.
Dan Rimada of Bodega Cats of New York, along with other social media accounts, organized the fundraiser to ensure these neighborhood fixtures receive the healthcare they deserve. The funds will support vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and emergency care, delivered by five NYC-based feline welfare nonprofits: Bronx Tails Cat Rescue, Catstoria Rescue, Hardhat Cats, Sassee Cats, and Bronx Community Cats.
Donations start at $25, with sponsors like Smalls, Arm & Hammer Cat Litter, and Bodega Cat Whisky offering rewards. As of April 23, 2025, over $678 has been raised. The initiative highlights the cultural significance of bodega cats and their vital role in the community.
