UCV and Valencia Basket Launch Advanced Sports Physiotherapy Master's Program

The Universidad Católica de Valencia (UCV) and the professional basketball organization Valencia Basket have formalized a collaboration to launch a new Master's program in Sports Physiotherapy, scheduled to begin in the 2026/2027 academic year. This postgraduate curriculum is specifically designed for recent physiotherapy graduates seeking in-depth specialization in injury prevention, treatment, and recovery within athletic populations. The program structure integrates evidence-based scientific knowledge with the practical requirements of elite sports environments.

A core component of the partnership grants students access to the established protocols utilized by Valencia Basket's Medical and Performance areas. The curriculum mandates rigorous engagement with functional athlete assessment methodologies, which are critical for objectively quantifying performance baselines and tracking recovery progress. Students will also master the application of modern technology in injury management and develop proficiency in interdisciplinary teamwork essential for high-performance sports settings.

The one-year Master's program is structured to award 60 ECTS credits. Official commencement is set for October 2, 2026, with classes strategically divided between the UCV's Torrent campus and Valencia Basket's L'Alqueria del Basket facility. L'Alqueria del Basket, spanning 15,000 square meters, is one of Europe's advanced basketball facilities, featuring multiple courts, weight rooms, and a medical clinic equipped with advanced physiotherapy recovery apparatus. This dual-location approach ensures a blend of academic rigor and immersion in a professional sports complex.

Faculty for the Master's program will include active professionals from Valencia Basket's medical services and performance staff, reinforcing the direct link between theory and professional application. This joint venture expands on an existing agreement where UCV already provides physiotherapy, nutrition, and psychology services to the club. The program, which also includes a Specialization Diploma in Basketball Physiotherapy, emphasizes practical application through substantial placement hours within sports entities, specialized clinics, and the Valencia Basket Club.
