Udaipur, September 26, 2025 – Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde emphasized the critical need to integrate ancient Indian knowledge systems into contemporary education and research during a meeting at Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT) in Udaipur.
During his review of the university's operations, Governor Bagde highlighted that incorporating these age-old wisdom traditions would foster both intellectual growth and a stronger national identity among students. He specifically suggested making ancient texts, such as those attributed to Maharishi Bharadwaj, readily available in the university library. Maharishi Bharadwaj, a revered Vedic sage, was known for his extensive contributions to fields like economics, grammar, medicine, aeronautics, mathematics, and philosophy, reflecting a depth of knowledge that remains relevant today.
Governor Bagde also stressed the importance of universities actively participating in community development, particularly in primary education. He urged MPUAT to engage its students, along with retired faculty and staff, in outreach programs for primary schools. These programs would involve sharing knowledge through storytelling and motivational narratives to cultivate responsible citizens and reinforce foundational learning.
This initiative aligns with the broader national discourse and policy frameworks, such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which increasingly recognizes the value of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS). Proponents argue that IKS offers a holistic approach that can significantly enrich modern pedagogy by encompassing diverse fields. The integration is viewed not just as heritage preservation but as a means to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and well-rounded development in students, preparing them for a globalized world while reinforcing their cultural roots.
