Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold: Triple Folding Design and PC Integration

Edited by: Svetlana Velgush

Samsung Electronics, leveraging a decade of expertise in pioneering foldable form factors, officially introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold on December 2, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea. This new mobile device marks a significant leap forward in folding technology, featuring a double-folding mechanism that transforms the compact handset into a substantial 10-inch tablet display.

The engineering behind this device is housed within an exceptionally thin yet robust chassis. When fully unfolded, the device profile measures a mere 3.9 mm thick. This slimness was achieved through the implementation of titanium casings for the sophisticated Armor FlexHinge mechanism. This hinge system utilizes a dual-rail structure with two hinges of varying sizes, ensuring steadfast operation while minimizing the gap between the screen panels when closed.

The external viewing experience is powered by a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, boasting a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2600 nits, enhanced by the Vision Booster technology. This combination provides vibrant visuals whether the device is partially or fully open.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z TriFold runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform, manufactured using TSMC's cutting-edge 3-nm N3E process. This chipset is notable for debuting Qualcomm’s proprietary Oryon CPU cores, which deliver up to a 45% boost in central processing performance and a 44% improvement in energy efficiency compared to previous generations. Furthermore, the integrated Adreno graphics processor, featuring a novel layered architecture, shows a 40% increase in graphical output. This processing power is supported by 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Photography capabilities are anchored by a 200 MP main sensor, capable of processing images up to 320 MP resolution.

Powering this complex structure is a three-section battery totaling 5600 mAh, specifically optimized to manage power distribution across the three distinct display panels. Despite this capacity, the device maintains a folded thickness of approximately 12.9 mm and weighs in at 309 grams. Durability is also addressed, as the device meets the IP48 water resistance standard.

The unique TriFold form factor is designed to dramatically enhance productivity. It natively supports the standalone Samsung DeX mode, effectively creating a portable workstation without needing an external monitor, and allows users to manage up to four simultaneous workspaces. Moreover, Samsung has embedded a “Second Screen” feature, enabling the 10-inch TriFold display to function as a wireless secondary monitor for Windows PCs. The accompanying software suite includes advanced Galaxy AI features, specifically refined for the expansive screen real estate, such as enhanced capabilities within the Photo Assist tools.

T. M. Roh, President and Head of the Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics, emphasized that the Galaxy Z TriFold successfully strikes an equilibrium between portability, raw performance, and user productivity. Consumer availability is slated to commence in Korea on December 12, 2025, followed shortly by launches in the markets of China, the United States, and the UAE.
